Shadow King was one of those great villains that I think could have had potential to be a movie villain, and in fact if I’d had my druthers I would’ve used him as the main villain in X-Men: First Class, specifically because he actually had a detailed past with Professor X, and at one point also contributed to a (re)crippling of Charles. Instead we got the Hellfire Club as a swinger’s club.

At the very least should they decide to do a Second Class you can definitely use him there, with a middle-eastern setting that would match the globe-trotting ambitions of the first movie, plus you could introduce Storm and, if you wanted, do the David Haller/Legion storyline. David Haller, aka Legion, a powerful telepath/telekinetic/pyrokinetic with multiple personalities who was Charles’ illegitimate son to Israeli ambassador Gabrielle Haller, who came to be cared for temporarily by Moira MacTaggart. Sounds like the kind of interpersonal conflict that the X-Men movies wallow in to me.

Anyway, I missed out on Shadow King’s exploits as a youngster, since he had debuted in the late 70’s and his big storyline ended right before the X-books got rebooted (in the Muir Island Saga), but I remember being mesmerized by Lee’s scary rendition for the card. I saw a villain that looked nothing like most of the villains in the mutant books, plus with a badass name that sounded like a Mortal Kombat character.

His Power Ratings show his significant Mental Powers, rivaling those of Charles and Jean Grey, as was appropriate.
