13 – DOMINO

First Appearance: New Mutants #98, February 1991

“Who is she?” the biography for Domino starts. And from what little was known about her at the time, and Lee’s rendering on the front, all Domino is really is Rob Liefeld’s version of Psylocke: A pale femme-fatale decked out in pouches, guns, and shoulder pads. And just like many of Liefeld’s X-creations, her power is as lame as it is vague. “Call me Domino… because things just have a way of falling into place for me!” Sure thing, Toots.

No doubt offended by having to drawn this pale imitation of his sexy ladies, Lee chooses to draw Domino as though she just smelled an X-fart.

Nothing to be said about Domino’s Power Ratings, and even less about what her ratings say about her mutant powers (the card makes no mention of it, because, I’m pretty sure at the time nobody knew, not even Liefeld). It is later revealed to be the totally vague and lame power of probability manipulation, aka they’re lucky.

Trivia time: Domino and Deadpool both first appeared in the same comic, New Mutants #98, February 1991. One character’s close to getting a movie, the other isn’t.

I actually think Domino’s power has tons of potential, but I agree that it’s rarely been actually used in an entertaining way.

There’s no reason her fighting ability should be 5/7 though. Higher than Beast? Nahhh.

She has the same power as Longshot. Liefeld coulda totally just made him Cable’s love interest (which would sure make Dazzler mad!)

Longshot could be used better, too.
